Some thoughts on ChatGPT and other large language models
ChatGPT and other large language models are currently getting better at generating correct syntax for (human and programming) languages. But they don’t have a proper world model and therefore lack significantly in higher-level semantic concepts. That seems to be a fundamental problem, and I fear they will remain limited to smarter auto-complete tools, but won’t live up to their current hype.
